See moreNavigating two worlds is never easy. On colonial Australia’s pastoral frontier, three lives intertwine in a story of dispossession, identity, and belonging.
Twyla, an Aboriginal child separated from family and suffering memory loss, is forced to work as a domestic servant on a property in north-west NSW, where she takes refuge at the creek and finds a friend and protector in Gamilaraay station hand, Garruu.
Sheep overseer Tom, an emancipist and former Kidderminster carpet weaver, alienated by geography and by the settler violence around him, hungers for family, friends, and justice.
When Garruu is wrongfully arrested, Twyla and Tom’s courage is tested as they stand up for justice in the face of intense racism.
Weaving together a vivid sense of Country, and laced with Gamilaraay language, Crossing the Creek is a love story between a man, a woman, and a place, and an important act of truth-telling through fiction.
