Glen Scouller is a well-known Scottish watercolourist whose paintings are full of vivid colour and light.
Colour and Line in Watercolour is Glen Scouller's first book, where he explains how he achieves his signature effects. He combines traditional watercolour techniques with pen and ink, pastels, and crayons to create paintings brimming with colour and spontaneity.
Using step-by-step demonstration paintings, Scouller shows how he builds up his work, beginning with watercolour and adding other media to develop his original style. He provides advice on his methods and techniques, encouraging readers to experiment with mixed media. Scouller emphasises the importance of keeping a sketchbook, especially when travelling, and he shares tips on how to start and make use of one. The book also includes sections on painting outdoors and in the studio, covering subjects such as boats and boatyards, landscapes, still life, animals, figures, and portraits.
Colour and Line in Watercolour inspires watercolourists of all levels to experiment with the medium and produce exciting and challenging work by incorporating line with various mixed media into their watercolours.
