One family. Two wars. No way out.

In the decaying industrial heart of Ironton, Ohio, the "Grinder" doesn't just crush metal—it crushes souls. For Caleb Vance, the clubhouse of the Grim Bastards Motorcycle Club wasn't a playground; it was a battlefield where loyalty was bought in blood and neglect was the only fatherly advice on offer.

Growing up in the shadow of his father, Declan, and a grandfather whose legacy is written in violence, Caleb has spent his life trying to survive the internal power struggles of the Bastards and the lethal rivalry with the Copperheads. He is a young man shaped by "threat assessments" and the cold reality of the Rust Belt, where the only thing thicker than the river mist is the smell of burnt rubber and spent shell casings.

When a brutal ultimatum from a "Hanging Judge" forces Caleb out of the streets and into the rigid, unforgiving world of the U.S. Army, he believes he has finally escaped the cycle. But as he trades his kutte for a uniform, he discovers that some ghosts don't stay buried in the Ohio silt. The war he thought he left behind has followed him to the barracks, and the "Iron Salute" is a debt that can never be fully paid.

Blood and Asphalt is a gritty, visceral exploration of intergenerational trauma and the high cost of brotherhood. It is the first instalment in The Iron Covenant series—a sprawling crime saga that explores the jagged line between the families we are born into and the ones we choose to survive.

In the Iron Covenant, the only thing more dangerous than your enemies is your own blood.

About the Author

Joshua "J.G." Smith is a USAF Combat Veteran and an author of gritty military noir and crime fiction. Residing in Amarillo, Texas, he draws his primary inspiration from the stories of the overlooked and often forgotten Justice-Involved Veteran. His writing explores the complex intersection of trauma, systemic failure, and the unique struggles of those who have served their country only to find themselves caught in the gears of the legal system.Joshua holds a Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Counseling, Sociology, and Criminology. This academic foundation informs his advocacy; he spends his time facilitating groups for Justice-Involved Veterans, working with Veterans behind bars and within the community to navigate the difficult transition back to civilian life. A loving husband and father, Joshua enjoys spending time with his family and dogs when he isn't writing or volunteering. Blood and Asphalt is his debut work and the first installment in The Iron Covenant Series. His work is defined by an uncompromising look at generational legacy and the heavy toll of the "grinder," serving as a voice for the stories that usuallyremain in the shadows.
