Arid the Honeypot Ant

Arid, a young honeypot ant, lives in the desert. A thunderstorm catches her by surprise and Arid is swept away from home. The desert landscape is changing quickly - rain has brought everything to life! Arid is surprised by the sudden arrival of spring and the abundance of food. She wishes to go home and share the food she has found, but how? Arid is not making the journey on her own. Who is helping Arid?

Tina Fitzgerald was inspired by facts when writing the story of Arid the Honeypot Ant. All children love learning about animals, their habitats and their features. This book introduces the young reader to the honeypot ant. Honeypot ants live in dry climates around the world and have an instinct to save in spring time when food is abundant. The book shows the beauty of the desert environment and touches upon themes of resilience, the importance of community and the importance of saving.

Tina Fitzgerald worked in financial services until the arrival of her second child in June 2019. She has been looking after her two young children full-time whilst pursuing professional qualifications in financial planning and wealth management. Through storytelling and her character of Arid the honeypot ant, she wishes to support children's financial education from a young age. Means and resources in life are limited. This book illustrates how the honeypot ant copes. Arid the Honeypot Ant is Tina's first children's picture book.
