Archer 887 by Anna Schroeder introduces Arsaces Wood, a man whom both sides of a conflict wished had perished the day he halted a doomed rebellion. Critically injured, he is repaired and reluctantly rewarded. Now considered a traitor to his own kin and a reluctant hero of the ruling Caprician Empire, Arsaces commands a Sentient— the AI battleship Westerland—in the Caprician Imperial Navy.

Young and widowed, Evi Hyde is on the run from a political marriage forced upon her by her father, the emperor. Disguised as a civilian, she boards Westerland, eager to use Arsaces' infamous reputation to hide in plain sight.

The solar system's fragile peace is shattered when Caprice comes under attack from an unknown enemy wielding impossible technology and weapons, devastating the Caprician forces. Arsaces, Westerland, and Evi must band together in a desperate fight for survival before they are overwhelmed and destroyed.
