About the Author
Sesame Workshop is the global impact nonprofit behind Sesame Street and so much more, harnessing the power of education, media, and research to support children in over 150 countries and empower each generation to build a better world.
Jon Stone (1932–1997) was a founding writer and producer of Sesame Street. He was executive producer and director of the show for many years. Stone was also the author of several Sesame Street books, including Another Monster at the End of This Book; Lovable Furry Old Grover’s Resting Places; and Hide & Seek with Lovable, Furry Old Grover, all of which were imbued with his impish sense of humour. His madcap and full-of-heart text for The Monster at the End of This Book, which first published in 1971—and has never been out of print—has ensured its longevity as the bestselling Sesame Street book of all time.
Michael Smollin (1925–2010) was the illustrator of numerous children’s books, among them dozens of Sesame Street titles. His depictions of Sesame Street characters were instantly recognisable, especially for the humour and humanity with which he rendered them. Among his most beloved books are Another Monster at the End of This Book; Lovable Furry Old Grover’s Resting Places; Hide & Seek with Lovable, Furry Old Grover; and The Sesame Street Players Present Mother Goose. He also illustrated Sesame Street calendars and album covers. His illustrations for The Monster at the End of This Book, which first published in 1971, have contributed to its legacy as the bestselling Sesame Street book of all time.
