Monisha Bajaj is a South Asian American children's book author and a professor education at the University of San Francisco She writes and teaches about peace, human rights, migration, and education. A Year of Kites is her debut picture book.

Spending the first half of her life in China before moving to the United States, Amber is heavily influenced by her bicultural background.
