Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
A New Latin Syntax provides a thorough historical exploration of key Latin constructions, organised into twenty-five chapters designed for progressive revision. It draws extensively on literary examples from authors ranging from Plautus to Tacitus, favouring historical explanations over conventional statistical rules. This approach helps students understand exceptions and apply the knowledge to both interpret texts and compose accurate Latin prose.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

This book offers a historical account of the chief Latin construction. The twenty-five chapters are arranged in such an order as to make it useful as a progressive revision course in syntax for Advanced Level and University students.

The account of each Latin construction is fully documented with literary examples, drawn from the series of authors from Plautus to Tacitus. The book uses, wherever possible, historical explanations instead of the standard statistical rules usually found in textbooks on prose composition, which inevitably leave a litter of unexplained exceptions.

A New Latin Syntax equips students with the tools to interpret texts as well as to write correct Latin, and the index of passages quoted makes it useful as a work of reference for teachers.
