Served as an introduction to poetry for each generation. This work features poems that celebrate childhood in all its complexity and joy, from "The Land of Nod" to the playful, "My Shadow".
Originally published in 1885, A Child's Garden of Verses has served as a wonderful introduction to poetry for each new generation. Stevenson's beloved poems celebrate childhood in all its complexity and joy, from the sunny pleasures of "At the Seaside," to the imaginative musings of "Foreign Lands," to the playful, ever-popular "My Shadow."
Of the many available editions, Gyo Fujikawa's is one of the sweetest and most personal. Illustrated in 1957, it was her very first bookβand she evokes a simpler, more innocent time that should profoundly appeal to today's audiences. It is a gift that every child will treasure.

About the Author
Robert Louis Stevenson (13 November 1850 - 3 December 1894) was a Scottish novelist and travel writer, most noted for Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and A Child's Garden of Verses. Born and educated in Edinburgh, Stevenson suffered from serious bronchial trouble for much of his life, but continued to write prolifically and travel widely, in defiance of his poor health.
