Maven Takes the Lead follows a young girl who wants to be known for something great. Nervous about starting fifth grade after spending all summer with her little brother and baby cousins, Maven seizes the chance to lead when her teacher announces a district-wide robotics competition. Being in charge is better and cooler than playing make-believe, right?

Despite doubts, especially from the boys in her class, Maven is determined to prove them wrong, supported by her friends and Girl Scout troop. However, her dedication to the competition spirals, and she seems to be disappointing everyone—including herself. Maven realises that being true to herself might be the real victory.
