Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon is a masterfully crafted tale that follows the journey of Macon "Milkman" Dead III. From his unusual birth, precipitated by a local eccentric's desperate attempt at flight, Milkman is born into a world rife with complexity and contradiction. Raised in Michigan by a well-off black family who hold the white world in high esteem, Milkman grapples with his own identity and heritage. His longing for escape propels him on a journey to the South, where he traces the steps of his ancestors in a quest to uncover buried family secrets. Along the way, he encounters a diverse array of characters—strivers, seeresses, liars, and assassins—each inhabiting a vividly realised black world.

This new edition, published by Vintage Classics, features a stunning design that celebrates Toni Morrison's indelible impact on literature. Accompanying the text is a new introduction by Booker Prize-winning author Marlon James, offering fresh insights into Morrison’s profound narrative and themes.

It is a brilliantly imagined coming-of-age story that delves deep into questions of identity, heritage, and the human longing for freedom.
