Eight ghost stories by contemporary writers, set at and inspired by English Heritage properties; followed by record of reported ghostly activity at English Heritage sites.
Eight Ghosts features eight authors who were granted exclusive access to their chosen English Heritage site, ranging from medieval castles to a Cold War nuclear bunker. Immersed in historical atmospheres and chilled by rumours of hauntings, they channelled their imaginations into a series of extraordinary new ghost stories.
Following these tales by the contemporary writers, there is a section by Andrew Martin on ghost stories and the sites that inspired them. Additionally, the book includes accounts of strange happenings and sightings at a selection of English Heritage properties, often recorded and related through interviews with site staff.
Selling Points:
- New ghost stories by well-known writers, set in spectacular historical properties.
- New illustrations by the award-winning artist Clive Hicks-Jenkins, commissioned especially for this edition.
- A gazetteer of English Heritage properties thought to be haunted, including first-hand accounts from staff and records of peculiar events.
The book also contains 16 black and white illustrations to complement the eerie tales and historical anecdotes.
