With the Lightnings introduces us to Daniel Leary, a lieutenant in the Cinnabar Navy with no money and no prospects. In contrast, Adele Mundy is a scholar whose family was massacred by the Government of Cinnabar.
Kostroma, a wealthy planet, is facing the threat of invasion. Together, Daniel, Adele, and their makeshift crew aren't much to stand against a powerful invasion fleet. However, they have each other, and heaven help whatever tries to stand in their way!
