A powerful and intense science fiction tale from a master storyteller

Ensign Morn Hyland works for the United Mining Company, which oversees law enforcement throughout known space. She lives aboard a police ship with most of her family; their job is to chase down pirates and other illegals who prey on the weak or smuggle goods into forbidden space. Her life is nothing out of the ordinaryβ€”until she encounters the pirate Captain Nick Succorso. Suddenly, the young, strong, beautiful police officer seems to be falling in loveβ€”or at least lustβ€”with the murderous pirate, or so it appears to those at the space station's bar.

But the real story is quite different...
