Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
Réquiem por un Campesino Español by Ramon J. Sender is a powerful narrative set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War. The story, originally published as Mosen Millán, explores the tragic fate of a Spanish peasant and reflects on the socio-political turmoil of the era. The novel evolved from Sender's wartime writings, moving from direct militant propaganda to a more poetic and reflective parable, capturing themes of exile, memory, and historical reckoning.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

RéQuiem Por Un Campesino EspañOl was first published under the title Mosen Millan in Colección Aquelarre, Mexico, 1953. The present text follows the first Spanish edition published by Destino, Barcelona, 1974, which bears a few minor variants, mainly in paragraph structure. It has been reprinted numerous times and translated into many languages, making it one of the most widely read Spanish texts of the 20th century.

This edition is aimed primarily at sixth-formers and university undergraduates. The introduction and notes have been compiled with recent socio-political topic-based syllabuses and communication studies courses in mind. The inclusion in the introduction of a substantial section on the now out-of-print Contraataque (1937), the wartime narrative containing the germ of the post-war novel, is intended to provide students with context for studying the process in Sender's writing inspired by the Civil War—from explicit militant propaganda penned in the heat of battle to implicit poetic parable, historical emotion recollected in the comparative tranquillity and distance of exile.

It is hoped that such a juxtaposition will illuminate both the content and literary achievement of RéQuiem Por Un Campesino EspañOl.
