A Pin to See the Peepshow by F. Tennyson Jesse tells the story of Julia Almond, a woman who believes she is special and dreams of a more exciting and glamorous life, far removed from the drab suburbia of her upbringing. Her work at a fashionable boutique in the West End grants her the personal freedom she craves, but her escape from her parental home through marriage soon leads to boredom and frustration.

As Julia embarks on a passionate affair with a younger man, her choices lead to deadly consequences. Based on the sensational 1920s Thompson/Bywaters murder trial, the novel highlights how Julia becomes trapped by her sex and class within a criminal justice system over which she has no control. She finds herself victim to society's expectations of lower-middle-class female behaviour and is incriminated by her own words.

Tennyson Jesse creates a flawed, doomed heroine in a novel of creeping unease that continues to haunt the reader long after the last page is turned.
