About the Author

William Flahertyis a conservation officer and an avid hunter who regularly volunteers with Iqaluit Search and Rescue. He lives in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Brian Koonoowas born and grew up in Pond Inlet. He is married to Samantha Koonoo, originally from Rankin Inlet. They have six daughters at home, Chantal, Janelle, Josephina, Shanelle, Alina and Alaira. Chantal and her partner Curtis have a son named Rogan, who is Brian and Samantha's first grandson and first boy in the family. Brian currently works with Parks Canada as a resource management officer. Brian continues to hunt and provides country food for his family, relatives, and community.

Monica Ittusardjuatwas taken from her parents and sent to residential school at the age of seven, at a time when Inuit lived a subsistence way of life in winter camps and roamed around in spring and summer, following animals when they were plentiful. She went to three residential schools: Chesterfield Inlet, NWT (now Nunavut), for primary school, Churchill, Manitoba, for junior high, and St. Norbert, Manitoba, for high school. Monica graduated from McGill University in 1987. While teaching Community NTEP (Nunavut Teacher Education Program) in Nunavut, she earned her M.Ed. through the University of Prince Edward Island. She was the honour student for Baffin Island. She taught for many years in elementary schools, high schools, and teacher education programs, as well as in the Interpreter/Translator Program at Nunavut Arctic College. Monica tried to retire at the age of 60, but the habit of going to work was hard to break. She was the National Inuit Language Coordinator at Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami from 2016 to 2018 and is now Senior Inuktitut Editor at Inhabit Education, which she describes as her dream job.

Allen Niptanatiakis a hunter and trapper from Kugluktuk, Nunavut.

Sean Bighamis an artist based out of London, Ontario. He works in the video games industry as a concept artist. Sean attended the Alberta College of Art and Design.

Kagan McLeodhas been illustrating for magazines, newspapers, and design firms since 1999, after graduating from Sheridan College's illustration program. He began work as a staff artist for the National Post newspaper, and has had illustration work published recently in Entertainment Weekly, Reader's Digest, The Walrus, The Wall Street Journal, Toronto Life, The Boston Globe, and Popular Mechanics. His first graphic novel, Infinite Kung-Fu, was published in 2012. He lives in Toronto with his wife, two daughters, and a hound dog.

Amiel Sandlandis an illustrator living in the Toronto area. He studied illustration at Seneca College, eventually specializing in comic arts and character design. He has also dabbled in layout, comics, and props making. Rarely found without a pen in hand, he enjoys drawing animals, monsters, and plants.

Danny Christopherhas travelled throughout the Canadian Arctic as an instructor for Nunavut Arctic College. He is the illustrator of The Legend of the Fog,A Children's Guide to Arctic Birds, andAnimals Illustrated: Polar Bear, and author ofPutuguq and Kublu. His work onThe Legend of the Fogwas nominated for the Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustration Award. He lives in Toronto with his wife, four children, and two dogs.

Patricia Ann Lewis-MacDougallwas born and raised in the Niagara Peninsula. Her childhood days were spent in the woodsy setting of Ontario's Bruce Trail. After graduating high school, Patricia Ann enrolled at Sheridan College to study Animation in the 1980s and later illustration. She worked for several years as storyboard artist for Nelvana. She has illustrated several books for children.
