Kingston Noir
Following in the Caribbean footsteps of Haiti Noir and Trinidad, now come dark stories from Jamaica's capital city. Kingston, Jamaica, is a noir city by any standard, literary or real-world. This knock-out cast of highly revered authors do malevolent justice to the rough and rugged tropical terrain.
Kingston Noir presents a vivid portrayal of Kingston, a city of fascinating beauty juxtaposed with startling poverty. Nestled around one of the world's largest and greyest harbours and framed by low green hills, this vibrant city of over a million inhabitants prides itself on its farm-to-table ganja culture.
Kingston was founded by survivors of a catastrophic quake that submerged a pirate town. What can one expect from such a city? The ghettos of Kingston have been the birthplace of influential cultural movements and genres such as ska, reggae, hip hop, dancehall, and Rastafarianism.
With over 500 murders annually for the last 20 years, Kingston has aptly earned the nickname 'Killsome'. The city's raw energy and stark realities served as inspiration for Marley's iconic "Concrete Jungle".
