Suicide Kings

From the #1 New York Times bestseller, the third of a new generation of Wild Cards tales.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Suicide Kings transports readers to a world reshaped by an alien virus, intertwining elements of adventure, drama, and a profound exploration of humanity. Set against the backdrop of war-torn Africa and post-apocalyptic New Orleans, the book chronicles the ongoing journey of the Wild Cards—individuals empowered or cursed by the transformative virus—and their quest for identity in a society fraught with fear and prejudice.

Amidst the chaos, characters must navigate not only the devastated landscapes but also the complex moral dilemmas that arise from their extraordinary abilities. The narrative delves into their internal struggles as they endeavour to assert their humanity against overwhelming odds, portraying a poignant tapestry of stubborn hope and resilience. The detailed character arcs and richly woven plotlines offer an immersive experience, captivating both devoted fans and newcomers to the Wild Cards universe.

Emerging from the fateful event in 1946, when an alien virus shattered human existence, Suicide Kings is a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of those who persist in the face of adversity. While ninety percent of infected individuals perished, a select few have witnessed their DNA transformed—nine percent becoming grotesquely altered beings known as Jokers, while an elusive one percent, the Aces, received incredible powers. The repercussions of this event have rippled through decades, shaping a history replete with both chaos and heroism, meticulously crafted by George R. R. Martin, often described by Time magazine as "The American Tolkien", alongside Melinda Snodgrass.

The Wild Cards series has evolved through its multitude of sagas, with Suicide Kings marking the culmination of the Committee Triad. Readers are taken on a journey through various interconnected trilogies and quartets that compose the expansive Wild Cards universe. Each entry, from the geometric complexities of the First Triad, through the enthralling stories of the Puppetman Quartet, to the latest American Triad, delves deeper into a world where the stakes are as high as the dreams and desires that drive its remarkable characters.

Enjoy the tumultuous and fascinating world of Wild Cards, where every instalment builds on a rich history of tales. With vivid storytelling and an ensemble of diverse characters, Suicide Kings invites you to explore the boundaries of what it means to truly be human in the aftermath of cataclysmic change.
