For Lewis and Wren, their first year of marriage is tinged with a surreal form of sorrow and hope. Newly married, their blissful union is abruptly shadowed when Lewis receives an unfathomable diagnosis: he is slowly transforming into a great white shark. With less than a year left to live as a human, this revelation pushes the boundaries of their love and their understanding of what it means to stay together.
Initially, Wren grapples against the harsh reality of her husband's condition. Is there a way to halt or reverse this metamorphosis? Can love transcend such an extraordinary transformation? As the days progress and Lewis' transformation becomes inevitable, Wren begins a journey of acceptance and reconciliation. She is no stranger to loss, and this unique trial forces her to confront the impermanence of life and find solace in the time they have left together.
Habeck’s Shark Heart is not just a narrative about a bizarre physical transformation, but a poignant exploration of love in its many forms, testing the limits of human resilience and empathy. It questions the very essence of humanity and the transformative power of love, loss, hope, and happiness.
