The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself
The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself by Sally Green is an enthralling read that has been brought to life as a major Netflix series. This gripping novel is the first in the Half Bad trilogy and takes readers on a dark, thrilling journey through a world where the line between good and evil is blurred.
Meet Nathan Byrn. At first glance, he is no ordinary teenager. Born into a society that is deeply divided, Nathan's very existence is a contradiction. He is half Fairborn Witch and half Blood Witch, living in a world where his lineage is both a curse and a mark of infamy. His mother, a gentle healer, has long passed, and his father, a notorious killer, looms like a shadow over his life.
From a young age, Nathan is discriminated against, mistrusted by those who categorize individuals into simplistic binaries of good and evil. At fourteen, he is imprisoned in a cage, a testament to the fear and prejudice that surround his mixed heritage. The Fairborn Witches, who are deemed superior and righteous, see the Blood Witches as their wicked counterparts. But what if someone is both?
As Nathan grapples with his dual heritage, he must navigate a path fraught with danger, betrayal, and self-discovery. His quest for identity is hindered by those who seek to use him and those who wish him dead. What makes someone truly good or evil? Can one defy their bloodline and choose their own destiny? Nathan's journey to uncover these answers is rife with moral dilemmas and harrowing challenges, pushing him to the brink of his resilience and courage.
The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself delves deep into themes of identity, prejudice, and the struggle for self-acceptance. Sally Green's masterful storytelling creates a complex, immersive world that captivates readers from the first page. Her characters are richly developed, each grappling with their own internal battles while being caught in the larger conflict between two warring factions.
This novel is not simply a tale of magic and witches; it is a profound exploration of human nature and the courage it takes to confront one’s inner demons. Perfect for fans of dark fantasy and supernatural intrigue, The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself will keep readers spellbound, eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the Half Bad trilogy.

About the Author
Sally Green lives in north-west England with her husband and son. She has had various jobs and even a profession but in 2010 she discovered a love of writing and now just can't stop. She used to keep chickens, makes decent jam, doesn't mind ironing, loves to walk in Wales even when it's raining, and will probably never jog again. She really ought to drink less coffee. Half Bad is her first novel.
