Thinner, by Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman, is a chilling tale of one man's descent into a nightmarish curse.

Billy Halleck is a successful attorney living in Connecticut with his loving wife and daughter. Overweight but content, Billy's life takes a horrifying turn after a chance encounter with an old Romani woman. Driving through town, Billy accidentally hits her with his car, resulting in her death. Though the courts clear him of any wrongdoing, the deceased woman’s father, an ancient and decrepit man, places a sinister curse on Billy, uttering a single word: Thinner.

At first, Billy's sudden weight loss seems like an ideal solution to his lifelong struggle with obesity. But as the pounds continue to shed at an alarming rate, the once beneficial transformation takes on a terrifying new dimension. No matter how much he eats, Billy keeps losing weight, and the medical community can offer no explanation. His family rejoices in what they presume to be a health breakthrough, blissfully unaware of the dark force at work.

As Billy's body wastes away, his mind begins to unravel. The relentless curse consumes him, pushing him to the brink of insanity. The word Thinner echoes in his mind, gnawing at his sanity and driving him closer to violence and desperation. With time running out and his physical form deteriorating, Billy embarks on a desperate quest to find the elderly Gypsy and lift the curse before it consumes him entirely.

Stephen King masterfully blends psychological horror with elements of dark fantasy in Thinner, exploring themes of guilt, retribution, and the unforeseen consequences of our actions. This haunting and suspenseful narrative will linger with readers long after the final page is turned.
