Why resilience and passion are the keys to outstanding achievement and how they can help you to accomplish remarkable things

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Grit by pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth delves deeply into the examination of the qualities that contribute to exceptional achievement. Rather than focusing on innate talent or sheer luck, Duckworth posits that resilience and passion—two components she collectively refers to as "grit"—are critical factors in achieving remarkable things. Through a series of compelling narratives, scientific research, and real-world examples, Duckworth explores how grit can be cultivated and harnessed to attain success in any area of life.

The book is a journey through both Duckworth's professional research and personal experiences. She recounts her own journey as a young teacher, her studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and her interactions with high achievers from various fields. Along the way, Duckworth introduces readers to fascinating characters, from cadets struggling through their initial days at West Point, to teachers in some of the toughest schools, and champions of elite competitions. These narratives serve to underscore her central thesis: success is more dependent on perseverance and passion than on talent alone.

Dive into the pages of Grit to discover practical insights and actionable strategies that can help anyone develop their own grit. Duckworth offers a compelling argument that while talent is an overrated driver of success, grit can be cultivated by nurturing your interests, practicing deliberately, developing a sense of purpose, and maintaining hope even in the face of failure.

Readers will particularly appreciate Duckworth's engaging style, which blends rigorous research with personal anecdotes and vivid storytelling. The book also features various psychological studies and interviews with high achievers, adding depth and credibility to her analysis. And above all, Duckworth's own story adds a relatability factor that makes the book an inspiring read for anyone looking to overcome challenges and achieve their highest potential.

Grit is not just a book but an invitation to reflect on what truly drives us and how we can harness our inner strengths to push through challenges. It's a powerful manifesto for anyone aiming to understand the dynamics of perseverance and passion better—and how to apply them in their own life.

About the Author

Dr Angela Duckworth is a 2013 MacArthur Fellow and an associate professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is an expert in non-IQ competencies, including grit and self-control. A highly sought-after international speaker, her TED talk on grit has been viewed by over 10 million people. Duckworth's hypothesis that the real guarantor of success may not be inborn talent but a special blend of resilience and single-mindedness grew out of her upbringing- as a child her scientist father lovingly bemoaned the fact his daughter was 'no genius'. Duckworth was determined to prove him wrong and spent her youth smashing through every academic barrier. As an adult she became focused on proving her theory and to find out if grit can be learned or cultivated. It was out of this that she created her own Character Lab at the University of Pennsylvania.
