What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing by Oprah Winfrey and Dr Bruce Perry presents a transformative exploration into the impact of trauma and adverse experiences on our behaviours, emotions, and lifelong development. This enlightening book invites readers into a series of deeply personal and expert conversations that challenge the conventional view of mental health and emotional well-being.

At the core of the narrative lies an empowering shift from asking "What's wrong with you?" to "What happened to you?". Through a blend of scientific insights and compelling storytelling, Winfrey and Dr Perry unravel the profound ways in which early trauma shapes our responses and self-worth, often subconsciously guiding our lives.

Oprah Winfrey candidly shares poignant stories from her own life, shedding light on the raw vulnerability of enduring trauma and adversity during childhood. These personal anecdotes, intertwined with Dr Perry's extensive knowledge of brain science and trauma, create a compelling dialogue that is both accessible and impactful. The authors strive to dismantle the stigma around mental health by fostering understanding and compassion, rather than judgement and blame.

The book delves into a variety of themes, including the importance of early childhood experiences, the brain's response to stress, and the ways in which we can recalibrate our emotional and behavioural responses. Each chapter provides readers with the tools and insights to transform their understanding of themselves and others, opening the door to resilience and healing.
