The biggest fantasy books coming to the screen in 2026

If you're anything like me, your watchlist is getting almost as long as your TBR.

This year is packed with fantasy adaptations, from beloved classics returning to long-awaited sequels and some of the biggest fantasy worlds ever created making their way to the screen. These are the ones I'm counting down the days for.

'The Vampire Lestat'

Anne Rice fans have been waiting for this!

After two incredible seasons of 'Interview with the Vampire', the spotlight finally shifts to Lestat as AMC adapts the second novel in 'The Vampire Chronicles'. This time, the iconic vampire steps into the spotlight as a rock star, telling his side of the story after Louis paints him as the villain.

Early reviews are calling Sam Reid's performance phenomenal, and if the first two seasons are anything to go by, this looks set to be another must-watch for fantasy fans.

'Sunrise on the Reaping'

This is the adaptation I'm most excited for.

I read 'Sunrise on the Reaping' in just two days because I genuinely couldn't put it down. By the end, I was emotionally wrecked. Haymitch has always been one of my favourite characters from the original 'Hunger Games' books, and Suzanne Collins somehow made me love him even more. His story adds so much depth to a character we thought we already knew.

The first featurette has only made me more excited. The casting looks absolutely spot on, and if the film captures even half of what made the book so unforgettable, I think we're in for one of the best 'Hunger Games' movies yet.

'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'

As someone who grew up with 'Harry Potter', this one feels incredibly nostalgic.

I was one of those readers who queued up at the midnight release for every single 'Harry Potter' book just to get my hands on a copy. Those launches felt like genuine events, and they're still some of my favourite reading memories.

That's why I'm so excited about HBO's television series. With an entire season dedicated to each book, we'll finally get to see so many characters, storylines and magical moments that never made it into the films. I know the casting has sparked plenty of debate, but I can't wait to return to Hogwarts all over again.

'The Odyssey'

Christopher Nolan taking on one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever told? Say no more.

While it isn't based on a modern fantasy novel, 'The Odyssey' has inspired countless fantasy stories over the centuries. Early reactions are already describing Nolan's adaptation as one of his most ambitious films yet, and with its mythical creatures, impossible quests and epic battles, this has all the ingredients to become one of the cinematic events of the year.

'The Magician's Nephew'

I absolutely loved the 'Chronicles of Narnia' growing up, and while most people immediately think of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe', 'The Magician's Nephew' was always one of my favourites.

It's such a brilliant origin story, explaining how Narnia came to be and introducing Digory, Polly, Jadis and the unforgettable moment Aslan sings the world into existence. It made the entire series feel even richer and more magical.

The fact that Greta Gerwig is starting here instead of simply remaking 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' feels like such a smart decision, and I can't wait to see it brought to life.

'Practical Magic 2'

I never thought we'd get another visit to the Owens family, but here we are.

Nearly 30 years after the original, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back for 'Practical Magic 2'. The first trailer has already reignited everyone's love for this magical world, and if you're a fan of cosy fantasy, witches and stories that feel like autumn in book form, this is one to keep firmly on your radar.

Fantasy fans are spoiled this year

From vampires and witches to magical wardrobes, dystopian arenas and ancient myths, fantasy fans have so much to look forward to over the next year.

One thing's for sure though: if you haven't read these books yet, now's the perfect time. There's nothing quite like experiencing the magic on the page before seeing it brought to life on screen.
