Love for Imperfect Things
Love for Imperfect Things by Haemin Sunim is a heartwarming guide that invites readers to embrace their vulnerabilities and appreciate the beauty in their imperfections. In a world that often seems to demand perfection, Sunim shares personal anecdotes, philosophical insights, and practical advice to encourage self-acceptance and emotional well-being. This book gently nudges readers towards a life filled with more compassion for themselves and those around them, fostering healthier and more authentic relationships. Unlike conventional self-help books that focus on constant improvement, Sunim’s approach is a breath of fresh air, urging us to be kinder to ourselves and to recognise that our worth is not defined by our accomplishments.
Many of us respond to the pressures of life by turning inward and ignoring problems, sometimes resulting in anxiety or depression. Others react by working harder at work, at school, or at home, hoping that this will make themselves and the people they love happier.
But what if being yourself is enough? Just as we are advised on airplanes to take our own oxygen first before helping others, we must first be at peace with ourselves before we can be at peace with the world around us.
In this beautiful follow-up to his international bestseller The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down, Buddhist monk Haemin Sunim turns his trademark wisdom and kindness to self-care, arguing that only by accepting yourself - and the flaws which make you who you are - can you have compassionate and fulfilling relationships with your partner, family and friends. He teaches that embracing our imperfections is not only necessary but also a powerful step towards true happiness and connection.
Love for Imperfect Things also features charming illustrations that complement Sunim's soothing prose, making the reading experience even more delightful and enriching. Whether you are struggling with the need for approval, dealing with stress, or simply trying to find more joy in your life, this book offers solace and practical guidance. By the end of the book, readers will feel comforted and empowered to live a life that's true to themselves.
