Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
An Introduction to MultiAgent Systems explores systems comprising many autonomous intelligent agents, including software programmes and robots, whose interactions may be cooperative or competitive. The book lays foundational knowledge suitable for readers with basic algorithms and discrete maths skills, and provides an overview of agent design and multi-agent societies. Readers will gain insight into agent characteristics distinct from other paradigms, challenges in building intelligent autonomous agents, cooperation strategies, and key application areas.

Book Hero Magic created this recommendation. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! IS THIS YOUR NEXT READ?

Ideal for computer science students with basic knowledge of algorithms and discrete mathematics, researchers, and professionals interested in artificial intelligence, software agents, and multi-agent systems.

Book Hero thinking about your next read

The eagerly anticipated updated resource on one of the most important areas of research and development: multi-agent systems Multi-agent systems allow many intelligent agents to interact with each other, and this field of study has advanced at a rapid pace since the publication of the first edition of this book, which was nearly a decade ago.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The study of multi-agent systems (MAS) focuses on systems in which many intelligent agents interact with each other. These agents are considered to be autonomous entities such as software programs or robots. Their interactions can either be cooperative (for example, as in an ant colony) or selfish (as in a free market economy).

An Introduction to MultiAgent Systems assumes only basic knowledge of algorithms and discrete maths, both of which are taught as standard in the first or second year of computer science degree programmes. A basic knowledge of artificial intelligence would be useful to help understand some of the issues, but is not essential.

The book’s main aims are:

  • To introduce the student to the concept of agents and multi-agent systems, and the main applications for which they are appropriate.
  • To introduce the main issues surrounding the design of intelligent agents.
  • To introduce the main issues surrounding the design of a multi-agent society.
  • To introduce a number of typical applications for agent technology.

After reading the book, the student should understand:

  • The notion of an agent, how agents are distinct from other software paradigms (e.g., objects), and the characteristics of applications that lend themselves to agent-oriented software.
  • The key issues associated with constructing agents capable of intelligent autonomous action and the main approaches taken to develop such agents.
  • The key issues in designing societies of agents that can effectively cooperate to solve problems, including an understanding of the key types of multi-agent interactions possible in such systems.
  • The main application areas of agent-based systems.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Highly recommended for socio-economic agent-based modellers of all levels, this book offers both rigorous theory and practical implementation guidance. It balances accessibility for beginners with depth appreciated by experienced readers, making it a valuable resource in the field.
