Horace is a very big horse with an even bigger heart. Every day he pulls the baker's cart and helps Old William, Big Bill and Young Billy take bread, buns and other doughy delights to all the people in the town. But when a terrible flu makes everyone sick, who is going to deliver the bread to hungry families?
Horace the Baker's Horse tells the heartwarming story of Horace, a very big horse with an even bigger heart. Every day he dutifully pulls the baker's cart, helping Old William, Big Bill, and Young Billy deliver bread, buns, and other doughy delights to the people of the town.
However, when a terrible flu strikes, making everyone sick, it falls upon Horace to ensure that hungry families still receive their bread. Based on a true story shared with author Jackie French by her grandmother, Horace the Baker's Horse captures an era when horses were an integral part of everyday life. Set in 1919 during the Spanish influenza epidemic, the tale follows Horace as he embarks on his well-trodden route to deliver bread all by himself, showcasing his courage and dedication.
Peter Bray's illustrations vividly bring the story to life, complementing the narrative with rich detail.
