Diddly Squat: ‘Til The Cows Come Home
Jeremy Clarkson invites you to join him for another rollicking year on the renowned Diddly Squat farm in his engaging follow-up, Diddly Squat: ‘Til The Cows Come Home. With a mix of determination, bumbling charm, and surprising agricultural insights, Clarkson navigates the unpredictable terrain of rural life once again. But in true Clarkson style, the road is far from smooth. Challenges arise in the most unexpected forms, proving once more that farming is no task for the faint-hearted.
Life on Clarkson’s farm is anything but straightforward. Fresh from the modest success of £144 in his first year of farming, Jeremy faces new and more daunting obstacles. From the deceptively simple task of loading a trailer—something he finds more complex than manoeuvring a gunship—to the realisation that cows pose more threats than any high-speed motor race, every day brings fresh trials. Even tasks that seem straightforward, like converting an old barn into a restaurant, turn into epic sagas, apparently requiring planning permission akin to that for a nuclear power station.
Despite the relentless challenges, hilarity abounds as Clarkson’s unique perspective and unfiltered commentary make this tale both entertaining and endearing. His attempts to master farming’s intricate details and his frequent run-ins with rural bureaucracy make for a compelling read. Clarkson might not have all the answers, but his enthusiasm and candid reflections offer readers an honest and humorous look into the world of modern farming.
With each page, Jeremy Clarkson demonstrates that even when plans go awry, there is always value in persistence. His daily mantra, ‘I’ve done a thing’, signifies more than just completed tasks—it captures the essence of his journey, filled with valuable lessons, relentless determination, and evocative moments of profound humour.
