Shipwrecked on an island, Edward Prendrick finds that he has wandered into a nightmare created by the mad scientist, Dr. Moreau. A cruel man of ego and unethical practices, Dr. Moreau experiments with the gruesome act of vivisection to create strange amalgamations of animals and humans called 'Beast Folk,' who worship him as a god.

At first horrified by these strange creatures, Prendrick soon realizes that they may be his only hope at survival. An exploration of humanity, nature, science, ethics, morality, and religion, The Island of Doctor Moreau remains a classic of Victorian literature.
