The Dazzle of the Light introduces us to Ruby Mills, a ruthlessly ambitious and strikingly beautiful member of the notorious Forty Thieves gang. Ruby's talents make her one of the most gifted within the group.

Meanwhile, Harriet Littlemore, an aspiring journalist from a respectable family, is engaged to a rising star in the Tory party. Although she is expected to adhere to societal norms, Harriet is determined to forge a successful career of her own.

After she witnesses Ruby fleeing the scene of a robbery, Harriet's fascination with Ruby goes beyond mere journalistic curiosity. As their personal ambitions draw them closer than the era's rigid social rules typically permit, their lives become increasingly entangled.

The intriguing relationship between Ruby and Harriet, charged with envy and desire, unfolds a compelling, cinematic tale about class, morality, and the cost of independence as a woman in 1920s London.

About the Author

Georgina Clarke has a degree in theology and completed a PhD in history part-time, while working as a parish priest. Her love of the past is at the heart of her fiction: her Lizzie Hardwicke crime series (published by Canelo) is set in the mid-eighteenth century, and her latest novel - The Dazzle of the Light - unfolds in 1920s London and is inspired by the real-life activities of the women-led Forty Thieves crime syndicate.

In 2021, Georgina began working as a tutor at The Queen's Foundation in Birmingham, training clergy. When she's not working, she enjoys dressmaking, running and mooching around old houses. She lives in Worcester with her husband, son and two lively cats.
