The Cloudspotter's Guide by Gavin Pretor-Pinney is an enchanting journey into the world above us, revealing the wondrous and often overlooked beauty of clouds. This informative and delightful book dives into the identification of various cloud types — from the towering cumulus to the delicate cirrus and the rare but magnificent Morning Glory.

Gavin Pretor-Pinney, the chairman and founding member of the Cloud Appreciation Society, not only teaches readers how to recognise and appreciate these diverse clouds but also explores their meteorological importance and the rich tapestry of cultural interpretations that accompany them. The book illuminates how, throughout history, clouds have inspired art, religion, and mythology.

For instance, Hindus believed that cumulus clouds were the spiritual cousins of elephants, symbolising strength and grandeur. Pretor-Pinney explains the science behind clouds, such as how thermal air currents interact with fair weather cumuli. He makes the case for seeing clouds as more than just weather phenomena, showcasing how they can serve as nature's Rorschach images, reflecting our emotions and states of mind.

Filled with fascinating anecdotes, scientific insights, and a whimsical appreciation for the sky, The Cloudspotter's Guide promises to transform the way we look at the world above us.

Whether you are a seasoned meteorologist or a casual observer, this book will equip you with the knowledge to identify and understand different cloud formations, enhancing your connection with nature and offering a new way to find calm and inspiration in your daily life.

Looking up will never be the same again.
