Well, this was a lovely surprise to wake up to!
Overnight, ELLE US exclusively revealed that Taylor Jenkins Reid is returning with a brand new novel, 'The Last Days of Vic & Coco', arriving on 2 March 2027.
The story follows Vic and Coco, two female pool hustlers travelling across America in the summer of 1974. After making a living hustling men in pool halls across the country, they find themselves in a small Arizona town where old secrets, complicated relationships and impossible choices threaten to change everything.
Speaking to ELLE US, Reid said the idea came to her after finishing 'Atmosphere' when she was feeling "really creatively spent." Then, out of nowhere, the idea struck: "Pool hustlers." She describes the novel as the book she's been waiting her whole career to write, calling it "my love letter to female friendship" and saying it's about "the specific way that women platonically love one another and the devastation that only friendship can bring to somebody's heart."
If you've loved the unforgettable relationships in 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo', 'Daisy Jones & The Six' or 'Atmosphere', this one is already sounding incredibly promising. March 2027 suddenly feels very far away.
Bookshop Hero Lizzy is extremely excited about this annoucement - Taylor Jenkins Reid's last novel, 'Atmosphere', was her favourite book of hers so far which is saying a lot as she has loved every one. It's a beautifully written, queer, love story but it's also an amazing family drama and a historical story about the 1980s space shuttle programe. If you haven't tried any of her novels yet, Lizzy recommends giving 'Malibu Rising' a go - it's a lesser talked about one, about one family and one night in the 1980s where a huge Malibu party sends things out of control. It's a perfect example of why Taylor Jenkins Reid is the perfect choice for someone who might be looking to get back into reading, or is currently in a reading slump!
