And... WE WERE WRONG. 😂 Honestly, I absolutely love it.
After spending the last week deep down the Reddit rabbit hole, analysing every Instagram clue and convincing myself I'd cracked the case, Rebecca Yarros has finally revealed what she's been teasing all along.
The mysterious September release is called Threshing Day and, instead of the Xaden POV novella so many of us were convinced was coming (yes, I'm still recovering), we're getting 13 brand-new stories set on Threshing Day, following some of the biggest characters in the Empyrean universe and their dragons.
Over the past week the fandom had split into Team Xaden, Team Ridoc, Team Dragon Lore and Team Artifact Book, but Rebecca somehow managed to surprise every single one of us. Looking back, the clues were there all along, but I don't think anyone predicted we'd be getting an anthology exploring one of the most important days in the Empyrean universe.
The best part? Rebecca also confirmed that Xaden's story will be released on her website at a later date, so Team Xaden... we're not completely losing after all.
The deluxe edition of Threshing Day will also feature 16 full-colour illustrations by fantasy artist Joe Requeza, making this feel like an absolute must-have for Empyrean collectors.
After spending the morning refreshing Instagram, reading every new theory and waiting for the rest of the world to wake up, I have to say... this announcement somehow exceeded my expectations. It's a chance to return to Basgiath, spend more time with characters we already love and hopefully answer some of the questions we've all been obsessing over while Rebecca continues writing Book Four.
Threshing Day releases on 29 September 2026, and I already know I'll be counting down the days.
