If you're lost, they'll find you...
Evie Boyd is fourteen and desperate to be noticed.
It's the summer of 1969 and restless, empty days stretch ahead of her. Until she sees them. The girls. Hair long and uncombed, jewellery catching the sun. And at their centre, Suzanne, black-haired and beautiful.
If not for Suzanne, she might not have gone. But, intoxicated by her and the life she promises, Evie follows the girls back to the decaying ranch where they live.
Was there a warning? A sign of what was coming? Or did Evie know already that there was no way back?

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
Emma Cline's debut novel is highly praised for its intense and atmospheric portrayal of adolescence and its insight into human behaviour. Critics commend it as a thrilling and stunning coming-of-age story, characterised by its taut, beautiful prose and its ability to evoke a sense of claustrophobia. The novel's treatment of themes such as loneliness, longing, and its compelling depiction of a Manson-esque cult garners appreciation, with many reviewers labelling it as an unforgettable summer read.
