An important story for young readers about standing up to bullies and developing courage and self-confidence.

I Can Build Confidence by Elisabeth Zöller follows Kim, a kindergarten student who loves going to school. Excited to show off her new backpack to friends, she embarks on her day with enthusiasm.

On her way, Kim encounters Grit and Fritz on the playground. They approach her, calling her names and threatening to harm her if she does not hand over her backpack. Scared and unable to find her voice to call for help, Kim withdraws as the bigger kids taunt her. Fortuitously, an older child scares them away, allowing Kim to continue to class, albeit shaken and unwilling to divulge to Ms. Blume the reason for her distress.

During class, Ms. Blume sings a song about the importance of being strong and encourages her students to create treasure boxes meant to hold their talents and strengths. As Kim works on her box, frequently disrupted by Fritz and Grit, she realises that her treasure box should contain everything she needs to become big and strong—confidence, courage, and her voice.

When Fritz and Grit later return to trample her box, Kim faces a crucial choice: should she retreat to the cosy corner to hide, or should she stand her ground, take a deep breath, and firmly demand that her bullies leave her alone? Which path will she choose?
