LOVE by Corrinne Averiss is a funny, emotional, and uplifting picture book that helps children understand their feelings about separation. When Tess leaves for school for the first time, she worries if her family's love will reach her there. Her mum reassures her with the idea that love is like a string connecting people across any distance. At school, Tess sees that all children have these strings—some new, some old, some stretching far, some reaching the sky. But what happens when a string breaks? This story gently explores themes of love, separation, anxiety, and grief.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Funny, emotional and uplifting picture book about separation and love, to help children understand their emotions.

Everyone loves everyone in Tess's house, but when Tess has to leave for school for the very first time, she is worried that her family's love might not stretch that far. Mum explains that love is like a string; it connects people together even when they are far away. At school, Tess notices that all the children have strings! Some are new, some are old, some stretch a long way, and some even stretch right up into the sky. But what happens when a string breaks?

Love is the third in a trio of feel-good picture books from author Corrinne Averiss (Joy (2018), Hope (2019)) - a pure delight from start to finish. A wonderful story that subtly tackles difficult topics of death, grief, separation and overcoming anxiety.

About the Author

Corrinne Averiss is a writer of thoughtful and humorous stories for children, including the CILIP Greenaway-nominated book, A Dot in the Snow, Floss the Playground Boss and Sorrel and the Sleeepover. Corrinne has spent much of her life being a professional silly person in children's television; she created the four-time Children's BAFTA-winning Share a Story competition and has an animated series under commission from CBeebies. She currently lives in Manchester, England, with her husband, daughter and cat.

Kirsti Beautyman works from her studio in Newcastle Upon Tyne, using a range of mediums to build layers of texture and detail which are combined digitally to create her illustrations. She finds inspiration within mundane observations and is often staring vacantly into the distance thinking up narratives and ideas. Kirsti won Picture Hooks Illustrator of the Year Award in 2017.
