A Year of Daily Readings Compiled by C.S. Lewis to Illuminate the Spirit of Christ
An anthology of daily readings from George MacDonald, one of the most influential writers of all time, compiled by C. S. Lewis himself.
MacDonald was a major Christian writer of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He influenced nearly every major writer of the twentieth century, including Lewis Carroll, W. H. Auden, J. R. R. Tolkien, Walter de la Mare, and C. S. Lewis. Not only was he a pioneer in the fantasy fiction genre, paving the way for authors like Tolkien to write Lord of the Rings, but he was also a significant Christian thinker, profoundly influencing Lewis.
Lewis, in fact, regarded MacDonald as his ‘master’, stating, ‘I know hardly any other writer who seems to be closer, or more continually close, to the Spirit of Christ Himself.’
The selections in George MacDonald will challenge and uplift you, illuminating the faith that underpins all of C. S. Lewis’s popular and enduring writing.

About the Author
Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a fellow and tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Mere Christianity, Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classic, The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and been transformed into three major motion pictures.
