Jigsaw: A Puzzle in the Post
Jigsaw: A Puzzle in the Post
Serendipity and positive thinking come into play as a family searches for a missing puzzle piece in Bob Graham’s enchanting story with a sweet surprise ending.
Jigsaw: A Puzzle in the Post invites readers to a delightful family adventure starting with the arrival of a mysterious thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle. "Oh, let’s do it!" say Kitty and Katy and Mum, while Dad, agreeing, states, "I have time on my hands."
Beginning in winter with the outer edges, the family progresses diligently, nearing completion by autumn, only to discover that one crucial piece is missing. Mum is convinced it accidentally went out with the rubbish, prompting the Kellys to embark on a journey to search through the local tip. They come across forgotten letters, train tickets, discarded newspapers, and old photos yellowed with age, but locating the missing piece seems increasingly like a futile task.
"Let’s wish, then," suggests Katy. As typical of Bob Graham’s work, the story unfolds beautifully through detailed illustrations offering both bird’s-eye and ground-level perspectives, along with wordless sequences that reveal secrets. Is the resolution sheer luck, or is it perhaps the power of hope that eventually brings this charming story to its surprising conclusion?
