Disaster Capitalism
How Capitalism makes a fortune from disaster, poverty and catastrophe
How Capitalism makes a fortune from disaster, poverty and catastrophe
Disaster Capitalism by best-selling journalist Antony Loewenstein explores the burgeoning industry of profiting from misfortune. Loewenstein travels across Afghanistan, Pakistan, Haiti, Papua New Guinea, the United States, Britain, Greece, and Australia to witness the alarming reality of disaster capitalism.
He uncovers how companies exploit organised misery within a hidden world of privatised detention centres, militarised private security, aid profiteering, and destructive mining. Through his in-depth reporting, a dark history emergesβone where multinational corporations, aided by media and political elites, have gained power surpassing that of national governments.
In the twenty-first century, the world's most vulnerable people have become its most valuable commodity.
Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
Disaster Capitalism by Antony Loewenstein is lauded as a meticulously reported and timely investigation into the exploitation of global resources and the privatization of detention centres and other corporate excesses across four continents. Critics describe it as a sharp follow-up to Naomi Klein's work, highlighting the dangers of corrupt political and economic practices. With insights from respected voices like Naomi Klein and Noam Chomsky, the book is seen as both a chilling study and a potent tool for those resisting corporate exploitation.
