Time remarked, "No serious writer of this century has more thoroughly invaded and shaped the public imagination than did Graham Greene."

In It's A Battlefield, Drover, a Communist bus driver, finds himself in prison, sentenced to death for killing a policeman during a riot at Hyde Park Corner. This gripping narrative explores the ensuing battle for a reprieve, involving a host of compelling characters:

The Assistant Commissioner, a high-principled and overworked figure, becomes entangled in Drover's plight. Conrad, a paranoid clerk, and Mr Surrogate, a wealthy Fabian, are drawn into the turmoil. In contrast, Condor, a pathetic journalist, feeds on fantasies, while pretty and promiscuous Kay navigates her own involvement. Each of these participants plays a vital role in determining Drover's fate.
