See moreThe most comprehensive account of Germany's plans for an underwater offensive against the southern continent in World War II.
U-Boat Far From Home explores the remarkable journey of the U-862, one of four German submarines deployed to the Indian and Pacific Oceans during World War II at the behest of the Japanese. It was the sole submarine that reached Australian waters, prompting the largest submarine hunt in the region's history.
The U-862 successfully sank seven merchant ships and shot down two aircraft before ultimately surrendering in Singapore at the war's conclusion. This comprehensive study draws on official records from Germany, Britain, North America, and Australia, as well as interviews with surviving German crew members and Allied naval and air force personnel.
