Eastbourne, late 1960s. Ten-year-old Sarah is restless and curious, and she forms a close friendship with Becky, sharing secrets, dreams, and the hopes of youth. But when Becky moves away, and Sarah’s mother – trapped in an unhappy marriage – leaves on an extended overseas trip, fourteen-year-old Sarah is left with little supervision.

A chain of events with long-lasting repercussions is set in motion as Sarah navigates the challenges of adolescence: first love, wild 1970s parties, and choices that will ultimately shape her future.
When Becky returns, she collides with Sarah’s life in unexpected ways, forcing Sarah to confront who she wants to be and where she wants to go next.

An evocative semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story of friendship, family, love, betrayal, and resilience, Sunshine Road explores the journey of self-discovery, the courage of self-acceptance, and the transformative power of embracing your inner knowing of who you can become.
