She's forged incredible friendships, become part of an amazing family, and embraced motherhood.
Yet, life hasn't always been smooth sailing. Having been relentlessly bullied at school and underestimated due to undiagnosed dyslexia, Penny also endured a harrowing sexual assault as a young girl. These experiences have fueled her passion as a staunch campaigner for women’s safety. Today, she dedicates her time as a Special Constable for the City of London Police, focusing on making the streets safer for women.
Throughout her twenties, she managed the intense scrutiny directed towards her, overcame the challenges of IVF treatment, supported loved ones through cancer diagnoses, and confronted her own depression. She has also navigated the complexities of menopause. Amidst encounters with royalty, rock legends, and renegades, Penny's story remains one of resilience.
In Someone Like Me, Penny shares her full story for the first time, delivered with natural empathy and humour, hoping to offer insight to others on their life journeys. About the Author
Penny Lancaster attended her local theatre school, enrolled on a modelling course at the London College of Fashion and went on to enjoy a successful modelling career for over 15 years, during which time she qualified as an aerobics teacher. She later gained a BTEC National Diploma in Photography and Design, and in 2000, the year after she started dating Rod Stewart, she turned professional. In 2004, she made her West End debut in ‘Tonight’s The Night’ while continuing to pursue her charity activities. Their first son was born the following year. In 2007 Rod and Penny married. She then competed in Strictly Come Dancing and in 2011 gave birth to their second son. In 2019, she featured in the Channel 4 production, Famous and Fighting Crime in which she joined volunteer officers who police towns and cities across the UK. Other recent TV appearances include The One Show, Celebrity MasterChef and The Great British Sewing Bee – and she continues to appear as a regular guest panellist on Loose Women, after her first appearance back in 2014. In 2021, she took an oath of office and since then has served as a Special Constable with the City of London Police.
