Education is in a constant state of renewal internationally, responding to a multitude of pressing social, political, and cultural issues. Processes of globalisation, conflicts and acts of terror, as well as economic and environmental crises, have resulted in large waves of migration and asylum seekers arriving in countries in search of safer and more stable places to settle. This situation has led to cultural and religious pluralism becoming a defining characteristic of many societies, accompanied by issues of belonging and identity.

Additionally, there has been a shift in influence away from traditional religious frameworks for many people, giving rise to new religious movements, both peaceful and violent. Alongside this, the popularity of spirituality and non-religious worldviews has increased, offering alternative frameworks for leading healthy and ethical lives. To prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s world—one rife with risks and crises and shaped by rapidly changing technologies—educators and researchers are exploring novel ways to equip students to tackle these challenges and opportunities, including fostering spiritual wellbeing.

Re-Enchanting Education and Spiritual Wellbeing brings together voices of experienced educators to discuss ways of reinvigorating education and revitalising learning programs in response to these 21st-century challenges within an increasingly global and interconnected world. It examines a variety of international contexts, including both secular and religious educational settings, providing a platform for visionary voices to identify issues and offer solutions. The aim is to help shape a more promising education system that will prepare children more constructively and beneficially to thrive in their future worlds.
