Pocket Philosophy: Schopenhauer's Porcupine explores the thoughts of Arthur Schopenhauer (1788–1860), a German philosopher known for his pessimistic philosophy. Schopenhauer was deeply cynical of love and the desire for children, believing that humans are merely animals—albeit far more unhappy due to our self-awareness.
The porcupine dilemma serves as a metaphor for the challenges of human intimacy. Schopenhauer posited that, despite our good intentions, human intimacy cannot occur without causing substantial harm.

Alice Brire-Haquet was a cherry picker and a high school teacher before she turned to writing books.
