Elliott Erwitt was one of the greatest of his profession. His photographs have shaped the visual history of the 20th century and continue to have an impact in the 21st century. Although Erwitt's work spans several decades and continents as well as numerous themes, it is always instantly recognisable. His spontaneous and original visions speak of true artistry without ever appearing artificial.

For this collection, Erwitt himself selected the photographs that he considers to be his best. Anyone leafing through this carefully edited retrospective will be filled with a nostalgic mood, a sense of wonder, and an enduring feeling for the richness of life.

Text in English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish.

Personal Best is a testament to the brilliance and sensitivity of Elliott Erwitt's photographic oeuvre.

  • New York
In a fascinating way, the French photographer and YouTube star shows us the changeable character of New York, this time in colour: obtrusively colourful neon signs, pulsating hustle and bustle on the avenues next to atmospheric sunrises over the awakening city or empty streets without a trace of human life. People play a rather subordinate role in Serge Ramelli's photos....

    The Iliad
When Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey appeared in 2017β€”revealing the ancient poem in a contemporary idiom that was "fresh, unpretentious and lean" (Madeline Miller, Washington Post)β€”critics lauded it as "a revelation" (Susan Chira, New York Times) and "a cultural landmark" (Charlotte Higgins, Guardian) that would forever change how Homer is read in English.
