Ansel Packer is scheduled to die in twelve hours. But this is not his story.

Ansel doesn't want to die; he wants to be celebrated, understood. Yet now he awaits the same fate he forced on those girls, years ago.

This is the story of the women who survive.

As the clock ticks down, three women – a mother, a sister, a detective – reckon with the choices that culminate in tragedy, the impact on those in its wake, and the possibility of redemption.

WINNER OF THE MWA EDGAR AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL 2023

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka has received significant praise for its engaging narrative and unique approach to the crime thriller genre. The novel is celebrated for its focus on women affected by a serial killer, rather than the killer himself, offering a nuanced exploration of trauma and the justice system. Critics highlight the beautifully drawn relationships between women, the compelling and empathetic prose, and its ability to challenge conventional crime storytelling by prioritising the voices of victims and survivors. It's considered a powerful, thought-provoking, and emotionally resonant novel that subverts traditional serial killer narratives.
