Lionel Morrison gained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington. He started his firm in 1982 and has produced exceptional work in Texas, New Mexico, Georgia, Florida, and California. In 1992, his first year of eligibility, Morrison was elevated to the College of Fellows in Design. Four years later he was named the Distinguished Alumnus by the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington. The following year he was named the Outstanding Architect by the American Institute of Interior Designers.

Lionel Morrison's residential and commercial work has been consistently recognised by his peers, with over 30 design awards. He has served on design juries throughout the Southwest and lectured at various universities and associations. He holds a Design Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects.
