About the Author

Dick Bruna (1927-2017) was an award-winning graphic designer, author and illustrator. He not only wrote and illustrated no fewer than 124 picture books, but also designed many posters and more than 2,000 book covers for the Black Bear pocket editions. During a career spanning 60 years, Dick Bruna gained international acclaim. He is best known for the lovable character Miffy.

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest Dutch painters of the 17th century. He is especially celebrated for the exquisite rendition of light in his work. Only 34 paintings are universally attributed to Vermeer. Among his most famous works are The Milkmaid and Girl with a Pearl Earring.

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is home to many Dutch masters, including Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt, Jan Steen and Frans Hals.
